Cow Car Water
With Chinese New Year just around the corner, I made plans to take a trip down to Chinatown just now. Chinatown after working hours, the week just before CNY? Yes, I questioned my own sanity too.
Surprisingly, it wasn't as crowded as I had anticipated (or perhaps I just have an exaggerated imagination). The light breezes every now and then eased the intensity of the bustling crowd and bright lights. Every street, every corner was packed with things to see, sample and buy; vendors hawking their wares playing a figurative game of who-can-yell-the-loudest (some enthusiastic, others evidently had lost the drive).
I think that besides the satisfaction of snagging good buys, being immersed in the hive of activity that is synonymous with Chinatown at this time of year gives you the feeling of belonging; of feeling a part of a culture which you might have perhaps lost touch with along the way.
